Novi, Michigan, July 15, 2013 – The City of Novi proudly announces the appointment of Lauren Royston as the Economic Development Director. Royston, currently a Business Services Manager for the State of Michigan Workforce Development Agency, will be responsible for the coordination of the City’s economic development efforts for corporations. She will work within Novi’s already-successful Neighborhood and Business Relations team to advocate for Novi as a location of choice for quality, sustainable investments. Additionally, she will collaborate with the Community Development Department as a liaison with the Novi business community, ensuring adherence to the Novi development requirements that safeguard preservation of values.

During her tenure with the State of Michigan, Royston conceptualized, executed, and managed multi-million dollar state-funded workforce development initiatives, including a $1.4 million initiative for statewide support of entrepreneurs and creating partnerships to execute $11 million in annual Worker Training grants. She also led campaigns to promote the Workforce Development Agency’s programs and services. Royston previously served as the Senior Economic Development Specialist/Business Consultant for Macomb County Planning and Economic Development. Royston is a graduate of Wayne State University with a Masters of Public Administration.
Royston was selected from a competitive and talented field of individuals. Her focus in Novi will be retention and expansion of the already diversified $3 billion tax base. Particular personal attention will be placed on retention visits and learning opportunities with Novi businesses. Royston’s extensive economic development and workforce background will enhance Novi’s partnerships with regional resources, including Oakland County, State of Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Detroit Regional Chamber, and many others. She will work with the Novi City Council to develop and complete annual economic development strategies.

As a current Novi resident, with knowledge of the area and State Workforce Development program experience, Royston will bring particular focus to assist Novi businesses to attract and retain talent, a recurring theme throughout the region.

“Ms. Royston will be a great addition to our Novi team, bringing expertise and energy to the Novi community that we continue to build and promote,” said City Manager Clay Pearson. “The City Council has prioritized economic development for continuing to grow job and investment opportunities in Novi. Her work in connecting businesses with talent development resources and hands-on working with businesses while in Macomb County will continue Novi’s special positive work.”
