Project Helpers grassroots marketing approach is changing the way local home services companies advertise. Their Community Marketers visit neighborhoods and travel door-to-door to discuss any upcoming home projects that the homeowner would like to have completed. Their project information is captured at the door in a hand-held device and an appointment date and time is scheduled with a home service provider that specializes in that field of work. Project Helpers then immediately notifies the service provider with the project information and scheduled appointment via e-mail. Upon receipt, the service provider then contacts the homeowner to learn more about the project and confirm the scheduled appointment date and time. To participate in the program, the service company must have all of the necessary license and insurance requirements in place. In addition, they must have been in business for at least 3-years and have previous home project references available for follow-up. Upon acceptance into the program, the service provider pays an annual membership fee and a pre-determined referral fee for each appointment they receive from Project Helpers. “Project Helpers benefits all parties involved in our process. The homeowner finds a reputable, licensed and insured company ready to work on their home project. The home service company receives an appointment with a homeowner that needs their specific type of expertise. And finally, the community wins because homes visibly in need of improvement are fixed and the home service companies have sufficient work to bring back unemployed construction trade workers.” says Ward. “To date we have had over sixty home service companies involved in the program and have scheduled over 3,000 appointments with qualified homeowners on their behalf. Our pay for performance model has been very well received since the home service company only pays us when we generate an appointment for their business.” The Project Helpers program was launched in the Greater Lansing market in May 2009. The program expanded into the Oakland County market in May 2010 with plans for complete Metro Detroit coverage in 2011. Currently, plans are being drafted for a national expansion that would include major markets across the entire United States. About Project Helpers Project Helpers is an operating division of Davison, Michigan based C&L Ward Bros. Co. Inc. They focus entirely on generating qualified appointments for companies in the home improvement and services industry. Through its unique Pay-For-Performance model, Project Helpers enables home service businesses to cost-effectively grow their business and market share by only paying for appointments generated by their community marketing efforts. It currently operates in the Lansing and Oakland County markets. For more information contact: Renea Huth, General Manager, at 248-568-0428.

Mando
America is supplier of state of the art vehicle
chassis sub-systems for brakes, steering, and
suspensions products manufactured, designed and
supported by the Korean-based supplier Mando
Corporation. Formed in 1962, Global Mando employs
more than 7,000 associates worldwide and grossed
over $2.5 billion in 2009. The company operates 16
production plants and nine research and development
centers globally, including the USA. The Novi
location will employ approximately 100 professional
engineering jobs with room to expand within the next
two years.
Recent work by the state, county, and business organizations made it possible for Mando America to relocate the research and development and test activities to Novi from Plymouth, Michigan. The move will happen in early 2011.
“Congratulations to Mando for its expansion in Novi. It is a great decision that Mando, one of the best Korean companies in Michigan, chooses Novi, one of the best cities in Michigan,” said Tack Yong Kim, Commissioner of Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission. “I hope to see more Korean companies and businesses relocate to amazing Novi, which is a great city to partner with.”
NOVI, Mich., July 13, 2010 – At last evening’s City
Council Meeting, the Novi City Council approved a
Tool & Die Recovery Zone designation request for
ECCO Tool located at 42525 W. Eleven Mile Road in
Novi. ECCO Tool is the first to be granted approval
in Novi and this is another way the City of Novi is
encouraging business retentions.

“This
is a company that has been in Novi for 55 years;
certainly no one can question their dedication to
the City,” said Novi Mayor David B. Landry. “I like
it when small businesses band together to create a
consortium to enhance operations and compete in
larger markets. The way I see it, there are many
people on this team and they wanted the City to be
on it too.”
The Tool & Die Recovery Zone is part of the Michigan Renaissance Zone Program (PA376 of 1996) set up to help save one the hardest hit business sectors of our economy – tool & die manufacturing. If approved by the State of Michigan, ECCO Tool will join a consortium of other tool and die companies located throughout the state who work collaboratively to increase their buying power and generate new business. ECCO Tool intends to diversify its business, specifically targeting the aerospace manufacturing industry.
Companies located in a Recovery Zone are eligible for an exemption, deduction or credit to their taxes for up to fifteen years. The Novi City Council approved a tax abatement for eight years.
According to company owner, Floyd Peterson, “ECCO Tool has been in business in Novi since 1955, and stayed competitive over the last couple of years because of two state of the art machines it has purchased. To remain competitive, survive, and grow ECCO Tool needs to buy another one of these machines. I want ECCO Tool to survive for my family and long-term employees who worked so hard for ECCO Tool.”
